Overtime Rises 12 Percent at UC

A new report on UC salaries indicates that the university system’s overtime pay rose 12 percent, to reach a total of $135 million. According to the Chron, some sixty employees earned at least $50,000 apiece, above and beyond their usual salaries; three nurses in the system earned more than $90,000 on top of their paycheck. As cost overruns go, this ain’t quite as bad as the executive compensation scandal that rocked UC a few years ago. But at a time of serious budget shortfalls, UC President Mark Yudof pledged to try to rein in such expenditures.
