Dellums Finally Ready to Unveil Budget Cuts

After weeks of unexpected delays, Mayor Ron Dellums will present his plan to cut $40 million from the city’s budget, the Chron reports. Dellums will meet privately with city councilmembers tomorrow, and hold a press conference later on the afternoon; the City Council will publicly address the plan next Tuesday. Councilwoman Jean Quan told the Chron that Dellums’ plan will probably lay off a lot of people, but leave the cops and firefighters alone. After that, it’s up to the City Council to find the rest of the $10 million left to cut, and that means negotiating a wage freeze or other options with the city’s unions.
