Martinez Beavers Gotta Go

Aw, they’re so cute! Too bad they’re ripping up the creekbed. Sadly, the family of beavers that has nested in Martinez’s Alhambra Creek and drawn legions of charmed tourists has also been busy undermining the riverbanks and retaining walls around nearby buildings. Now, sez the Chron, a restaurant and the county elections office are threatened with destruction. Tomorrow, the City Council is expected to spend $500,000 reinforcing the banks with steel pilings, a process that will inevitably drive the terrified little critters into parts unknown.
