BART Gets Wi-Fi Access

On Friday, BART officials announced a new plan to provide Wi-Fi access to every BART train and station in San Francisco and Oakland, even under the San Francisco Bay. It won’t be free, of course; Wi-Fi Rail, Inc., the company that is providing it, will charge riders $300 for a year’s subscription, $30 a month, and $9 a day. Eventually, the company will implement a system whereby riders can use the service for free, but will have to watch an ad every 3.5 minutes. (Potential homicidal rage alert!) But according to the Chron, the company’s ponying up all the construction and operating costs, and BART gets a piece of the revenue. Sounds like a pretty smart deal.
