Oakland Sued for $10 Million

The family of a man who was allegedly beaten to death by Oakland police in 2000 has filed a $10 million federal civil rights lawsuit against the city, according to the Trib. Jerry Amaro was beaten savagely by then-Lieutenant Edward Poulson during an arrest. Paulson then got a slap on the wrist from the department. The FBI is investigating whether Paulson orchestrated a cover-up of the incident. Incredibly, then-Police Chief Wayne Tucker promoted Paulson last year to be the head of the department’s internal affairs unit. Call it reason 271 for why we’re happy that Tucker is gone.
