The San Francisco-based, independent bookstore chain, Books Inc., has opened a new store on Fourth Street in Berkeley, not far from the where Cody’s Books used to be. The new bookstore will fit the Books Inc. model of offering a variety of new books in a smaller space – about 3,100 square feet – while being staffed with experienced and knowledgeable booksellers. Books Inc. officials told the Chron that they decided to open the store after the Fourth Street landlord offered them a discount on rent. It will be the eleventh store in the Books Inc. chain.
