Kaiser to Close Oakland Heart Center

Kaiser plans to close its Oakland heart surgery center next July, and transfer some of the services to San Francisco and Santa Clara. Kaiser has run the cardiac center out of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland since 2000, but decided not to renew its contract with Summit next year. The managed health-care giant said East Bay emergency heart surgery patients will be redirected to other local hospitals for care, including Summit, which will maintain its own cardiac services, the Contra Costa Times reports.
