An Amtrak passenger train destroyed an AC Transit bus yesterday after the bus stalled on railroad tracks in East Oakland, according to the Trib. Luckily, nobody was hurt in the crash and it’s unclear why the bus stalled, but it was a Van Hool bus, which have a long record of breaking down. In fact, top AC Transit officials admitted last year that the expensive Belgian-made buses have been accident prone and more costly to maintain than American-made buses.
