Mehserle Sentence Reaction in Oakland

Demonstrators are planning to congregate at Oakland City Hall in downtown at 2 p.m., KTVU reports.

Update 2 p.m.: Mayor Ron Dellums and Police Chief Anthony Batts are planning to make a plea for peaceful demonstrations today in the wake of the Mehserle sentencing, KTVU reports.

Update 2:48 p.m.: Chief Batts said the city is mostly “quiet” right now, as he described his department’s extensive preparations for possible protests today.
