Oakland R&B singer and soul legend Sugar Pie DeSanto’s husband died in a fire at their home in Oakland last week, which also destroyed all of her musical memorabilia. (See the Chronicle article). There was a benefit for her at Kimball’s last night, and there’s going to be another at Eli’s this week. She’s an Oakland legend and one fine lady. Lee Hildebrand, our former clubs editor, used to be her drummer. Fine people, all.
