You’ve Got Stories, They’ve Got a Recorder

The StoryCorps Griot Initiative started in February with the goal of collecting interviews from at least 1,750 African Americans, focusing on the experiences of World War II veterans and those involved in the Civil Rights movement. A griot is someone in the West African tradition who maintains community tradition through storytelling, music, and dance. The touring StoryCorps’ GriotBooth (an Airstream trailer) is currently parked outside of Oakland’s City Hall through September 19. Click here to make a reservation online, or call (800) 850-4406.
