Noting the good news that Oakland City Councilmembers agreed to cut their personal discretionary budgets in half to reduce the $42 million deficit, Chron columnist Chip Johnson calls on Ron Dellums to do the same, firing some of his 22-person staff. Robert Bobb is due to hand Dellums a report recommending who should get the axe. But we’re not so sure about this one. Dellums, after all, clearly needs all the help he can get. Since he’s not willing to govern the city, someone oughtta be in there, making the decisions he’s too busy admiring his haircut to make. Maybe the mayor could just forego his own salary instead.
