For Once, Newspapers Sell Like Hotcakes

In a bizarre epilogue to a bizarre and historic election, everyone wanted to buy a newspaper yesterday. People around the Bay Area and the country snatched up papers everywhere they could, seeking to keep a memento of Obama’s election. According to the Oakland Tribune, scalpers bought in bulk and were reportedly selling them on Craigslist for $200. And here’s an odd anecdote: at a 7-11 in Hayward, a clerk jacked the price of papers up to $5 for white people, but sold them at the original price for African-American customers. “We’re trying to keep some for the brothers and sisters,” the clerk allegedly told customer Christopher Carney, who told the Trib.
