Stories you shouldn’t miss:

1. Oakland Police Chief Anthony Batts has serious concerns about the prospect of laying off up to 200 police officers to fix a $30 million hole in the city’s budget, the Trib reports. But Batts may have no choice unless the Oakland police officers’ union agrees to additional compensation cuts.

2. A gang injunction sought by Batts and Oakland City Attorney John Russo may be granted. The Chron reports that Alameda County Superior Court Judge Robert Freedman indicated yesterday that he was inclined to approve the injunction against fifteen members of a North Oakland gang. Russo and Batts plan to seek similar injunctions against other gangs throughout the city.
