.Most Influential Cal Energy Czar

Dan Kammen

United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, former professor of physics and biology at UC Berkeley and director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, has been called our country’s green-energy czar. Last fall, another avowed advocate of alternative energy from Cal followed in Chu’s footsteps to Washington, but not to work for the government. Instead, Dan Kammen, a professor of energy and public policy on campus and an internationally renowned expert on alternative energy, went to work for the World Bank. Kammen provides strategic leadership on World Bank energy policy and operations around the globe, and may just be the entire world‘s green-energy czar. His goal is to help establish the bank — which lends an average of $8 billion every year for energy projects — as a world leader in renewable energy and energy efficiency while moving global energy development down a cleaner and more sustainable path: No simple task, but we trust he’s up to it.
