On Tuesday, April 13th at 10 a.m., All Stars will be hosting a virtual town hall called Going Beyond the Grant featuring local nonprofits that are on the front lines of advancing racial equity and social justice. Much like how venture capitalists invest in startups, All Stars believe that driving change takes more than awarding a cash grant.
Since 1989, All Stars has awarded $25 million in grants and resources to emerging nonprofit organizations that are working to disrupt the cycle of poverty through access to education, career readiness, and health and wellness programs for Bay Area youth. The provide additional support with the necessary coaching, capacity building, and connections to help build the strength of our grantees to drive their financial health, scale, and overall impact.
Virtual town hall attendees will hear from the following All Stars grantees about what kind of support nonprofits need to succeed in a post-pandemic world:
— Beverly Roberts Charles, J.D., Executive Director of WriterCoach Connection, teaches students to embrace the power and richness of their own voices.
— James Nguyen, a first-generation UC Berkeley student from Richmond, Calif. who earned a full-ride scholarship with the help of WriterCoach Connection (by opening up about his traumatic upbringing in a low-income community and coming back from a horrific accident that nearly cost him his life).
— Dr. Tyfahra Milele, Executive Director of Camp Phoenix, runs a fun-filled, justice-centered program that empowers Oakland youth by reconnecting them to nature and building self-esteem.
— David Greco, Executive Director of All Stars Helping Kids, is a nationally recognized nonprofit leader, speaker, and author of multiple books on creating a more sustainable and effective social sector.
