Cast Of Thousands make lovely, post-hardcore-inflected indie music. Male and female vocals blend seamlessly, guitar work is pleasantly jangly, bassist Jennifer Yee is excellent – they even manage to integrate a harmonica without it sounding too folksy. There’s a dark vibe to Applied Mythology that’s very appealing, as is the occasional integrating of electronic elements with straight-up rock. Why doesn’t this band have a record deal?
