Luke MacAulay, spokesman for departing US Attorney Kevin Ryan, who oversees all federal prosecutions in the Bay Area, said Tuesday afternoon that Ryan’s choice to abruptly leave office was a “mutually agreeable” decision with the Bush administration. When asked whether Ryan’s departure came as a surprise for other federal prosecutors in the Bay Area, MacAulay said: “I don’t know. No comment on that.” He had the same response when asked whether Ryan had told anyone else about his decision to no longer come to work, and to e-mail his resignation.
