Local musicians will hold a rally and concert today in front of City Hall from 4-5:30 p.m. in favor of changing Oakland’s cabaret laws. As we previously reported, Oakland’s City Council will consider changes to its cabaret laws, which would allow small businesses to host music and allow a select few to stay open till 5 a.m. in a two-year pilot program. Bands to perform include Belly of the Whale, the Royal Family, and Quinn DeVeaux. The proposal earned muster with the Public Safety Committee last week, and also has the support of the Oakland Police Department.
