MediaNews Taps a Knight Ridder Vet to Lead its Bay Area Papers

Steve Rossi, a former executive with Knight Ridder newspapers, is the new head honcho of most every Bay Area paper that isn’t named Chronicle or Express, the Times reported Monday. Rossi’s imminent arrival was predicated by the resignation of George Riggs, who has been the chief executive of the California Newspapers Partnership, which owns the Times, Oakland Tribune, Daily Review of Hayward, Argus of Fremont and San Jose Mercury News, along with several dozen other papers. No word yet on what to expect from Rossi, who at one time was thought to be the heir apparent to former Knight Ridder CEO Tony Ridder.
