.Gay Marriage Rallies Draw Thousands

Rallies in support of gay marriage attracted thousands of people in San Francisco and Oakland this weekend, according to press accounts. Roughly 7,500 people waved signs and blew whistles at a gathering in front of San Francisco’s City Hall, and a small contingent of people broke off to march to the Castro, ultimately turning back and settling in Union Square. A similarly sized crowd showed up in downtown Oakland, lining up and down Broadway and choking the plaza in front of City Hall. According to the Trib, incoming City Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan blew a shofar to symbolize, er, something. Anyway, they were here, they were queer, etc.
