Glenn Richman has been teaching ensembles at the Jazzschool for over 20 years. He is well acquainted with the rhythmic challenges that intermediate jazz players face. He has created a class to help intermediate jazz players develop a better sense of rhythm and time. Through foot-tapping, finger-snapping, singing, hand-clapping and playing their instrument, students will be able to immerse their mind and body into the rhythm. We will take apart syncopated rhythms and make them easy to understand and, more importantly, feel. Each genre, jazz swing, bossa nova, jazz waltz, and jazz ballads demands a knowledge of and an internalized feel of specific rhythms to successfully play in a modern-day jazz band. Although we’ve geared this class toward the intermediate level, all levels are welcome.
