The American Lung Association has issued a report on the air quality in counties around the bay, and both San Francisco and Contra Costa counties get a big fat F on the amount of particulate matter in the air. Alameda County, on the other hand, got a C, and continues to improve. The story, in the Chronicle, makes a nice point: despite our Northern California sense of virture, we burn just as much gas as Los Angeles residents, but breezes from the Pacific Ocean disperse pollution up here, whereas in LA, it sits stagnant and inert.
