Dear J-School Community,

I thank you again for your continued support and participation in the
on-going Dean Search process. As you know, Josh Quittner is scheduled
to visit campus next week on Wednesday, March 21 & Thursday, March
22. I hope you will join the search committee in welcoming him to
campus.

I also have some unfortunate news. Dianne Lynch has withdrawn her
candidacy for the position. She asked that I thank all of you for the
hospitality during her visit to Berkeley this week and to convey
that, in her words “I found the program, the people, and the students
as amazing and exceptional as I expected I would.” She has
determined, nonetheless, that this is not the appropriate position
for her at this time. I have spoken with her at length, and this is
her final decision.

Sincerely yours,

AnnaLee Saxenian
Dean and Professor, School of Information
Chair, Journalism Dean Search Committee
