Berkeley Grad Gets Recognition
UC Berkeley grad and San Francisco native Erin Fetherston is one of ten nominees honored by the Council of Fashion Designers of America/Vogue Fashion Fund. One prize of $200,000 and two of $50,000 go to promising designers, who also receive business mentoring. As Buy Curious previously reported, Fetherston won $25,000 from the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation in its 2007 competition. Kirsten Dunst appeared in this promotional video for Fetherston’s fall 2006 collection.

SF “Fashion” Week
You know, we love to support talented, independent, up-and-coming designers. Unfortunately, organizers of SF Fashion Week made that more difficult thanks to their policy barring bloggers from obtaining press passes (and we’re too cheap to pay). Ironically, SFFW organizers responded to this criticism on their own blog, stating, “we will continue to evaluate each pass request and make case-by-case decisions on each one, regardless of whom applies.” (their italics, not ours). In other words, they don’t officially admit bloggers, but bloggers can apply and they’ll think about it. … In other SFFW news, designers for this year’s show, which takes place August 22 to 26, have been announced – and they include Berkeley-based EVarize. The designers (some of whom are pictured here) celebrated the show’s launch at a party last Saturday at the W Hotel. We’re probably going to burn in hell for this, but aren’t they a little fug to be at the forefront of SF fashion?

Down with Fug! Support Breast Cancer Research
Think you’ve got an untapped sense of style? Design a breast cancer awareness t-shirt for a contest sponsored by Tobi and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure San Francisco. Five winning designs will be chosen and printed on organic cotton tees, which will be sold exclusively at Tobi. 10 percent of the sales will be donated to the cancer fighting charity. Deadline is August 15!
