The AC Transit board of directors adopted a “Buy-America” policy last night that could end the agency’s controversial relationship with Belgian-bus-maker, Van Hool. The board voted 6-1 for the policy, which was sponsored by board member Elsa Ortiz and directs AC Transit staff to “employ its best efforts” to procure goods made in America, and give first priority to California-made products. The only board member to vote against the policy was Chris Peeples, one of the biggest cheerleaders for Van Hool buses over the years.
